A collection of in Wat Sisaket broken Buddha statues that were damaged when bombs fell on Laotian religious sites.

Vientiane, Laos is filled with beautiful Buddhist Temples. On some days I will just go and wander from temple to temple, making photographs, reflecting on how different this beautiful culture is and talking with the local monks. I usually find it peaceful and inspiring, but sometimes you come across reminders of things from the recent past that are bracing reminders of a tragic past.

In Wat Sisaket there is a collection of ancient Buddha images that were damaged during the bombing of Laos and have been brought to the temple for restoration. There is a whole room dedicated to these casualties of a “secret war” fought only a few decades earlier.
