The Iconic Château Frontenac in Quebec City, Canada at Dusk

The Château Frontenac is one of the most familiar landmarks in Quebec City, Canada, but I wouldn’t pay to stay there again. Even after multi-million dollar renovations our room felt tired, cramped and dated. There is an appeal to staying at a place as historic and storied as Le Hotel Château Frontenac but, at standard rates of around $300 USD a night, there are other places just as charming and well located in Quebec City, at better prices. I know there are places that don’t charge $15 to use the WiFi. Admittedly I was also a bit put off because the hotel has creepily installed motion sensors in the room to detect whether guests have moved, and possibly drank, the NINE DOLLAR bottle of water they leave on a shelf. (No, I didn’t drink the water, but I did move it to get a photo of the price-tag and had to explain at check-out.)
