Sarah and I had been house/pet sitting, well, let’s call it “tiny apartment sitting”, in Hong Kong for about ten days. We weren’t ready to leave Hong Kong yet, but we were now ready to enjoy some of the more upscale amenities that Hong Kong is famous for.

I loved the neighbourhood where we were staying, on Hong Kong Island, in the Mid-Levels near SoHo, but I was also ready to be in a place where I could stretch out a bit and not have to climb and descend six flights of stairs every time the fantastic, but somewhat energetic dog we were watching wanted to go for a walk.

Luckily the folks at Onyx Hospitality agreed to let us try out one of their premier properties in Hong Kong, and it was right in the same neighbourhood.

If you want to stay on Hong Kong Island, in the middle of everything, the Shama Serviced Apartments are a perfect choice. In the Mid-Levels, right on Peel Street, with SoHo, Central, Queens Road, Antique Street and the Mid-Level escalators practically on your doorstep.

I loved that it was so well located but still right in the middle of this eclectic neighbourhood with local markets, food stalls, fancy restaurants, boutiques and camera shops. We were living on a quiet island of luxury in the middle of the frenetic pace that is the best of Hong Kong.

Well, it was more than a room. It was a 1,000 square-foot luxury apartment 25 floors above the city.  There was a separate living room, a fully furnished kitchen (with a Nespresso coffee machine) and even a big dining room.  We had a nice big bathroom with plenty of light and soft, thirsty towels.

In the living room were a flat-screen television and stereo system and a comfortable sofa right next to a huge window.  It was a nice modern apartment decorated with just the right mix of wood, glass and steel. It was unmistakably Asian but also included some Western accents. Also, the bed was one of the best I have experienced anywhere. Again, for me, it was the view, and I loved that our corner apartment had windows overlooking the city on three sides.

Atmosphere:

When you stay at the Shama Central you feel like you are staying at home; that is, if home was a modern, comfortable apartment building in the middle of Hong Kong. Everything shines with polish and is obviously meticulously maintained.

Again, like the room, everything was elegant and warm, with an appealing mix of Asian and Western touches and amenities. You get keycard access from a discreet entry just off of the street. There is a small gym and laundry facilities too. It was so comfortable, I told Sarah that I would actually love to live there!
