I made this image on a visit to a remote village in Phongsaly Province, Laos. I was invited inside of this communal hut to share a meal and the adults were having a good time, relaxing and enjoying a bit of Lao Lao (rice whiskey) afterward. It was a simple room, raised off the ground on stilts, with a tin roof, sun-baked wooden slats for walls and dirt floors. I thought this moment made a poignant portrait that served a bit as a window into remote Laotian life.
