Papas and Platanos Cart
Snacking in the walking areas of San Cristobal de las Casas is simple. Street vendors carry baskets, set up carts and open their storefronts offering a variety of foods just waiting to be discovered. From weird to comfortable to distressingly familiar there is something for every mood and taste. Sometimes I just want something plain to cleanse my palate or carry me over before I move on to dinner or something more substantial. Something fresh but familiar. Cheap but satisfying. When I feel like that nothing quite hits the spot like a bag of 35 cent freshly fried potatoes or plantains (papas y platanos). They are light crispy and delicious. You can get them plain or with chili sauce. Not complicated, not fancy, not unusual but fresh and satisfying.
