Every year from November to February the Thailand sunflowers put on a festival of sorts. Since the sunflower can grow in dry conditions farmers often plant their fields with them instead of corn. It is believed that the sunflowers was first domesticated in what is now the Southeastern US, roughly 5000 years ago, there is no evidence that it may have been first domesticated in Mexico as far back as 2600 BC. One thing for sure, they aren’t just in Kansas anymore as the Lopburi Sunflower fields attest.

The best time to see the Lopburi Sunflower fields is from November to January and generally coincides with cooler temperatures in this part of Thailand.
What Else Is There To See Near The Lopburi Sunflower Field?
It is quite a distance from the Red Lotus Sea, but if you timed it right, You can get there by train or bus, but it is a lot easier to explore the area, including some charming temples and the Monkey Temple (Phra Prang Sam Yot) if you have a car. Wat Trai Khiriwan Khao Phu Tong, the temple you see in some of these photographs, given its gorgeous location near dramatic karst, is well worth a visit too, although other than a few monks, you may be to only other people there.
