Considering that Gibraltar is only 6.8km², and most of that is one giant rock, there are a lot of things to do. And surprisingly, there is a huge variety of pubs, cafes, fish and chip shops, and restaurants to choose from. One thing for sure, you will not go hungry in Gibraltar.
Our Favourite Gibraltar Restaurants
For nice but not outrageously expensive restaurants with a waterside setting, head to Queensway Quay or Ocean Village.
Lounge Gastro Bar on Queensway Quay
We particularly enjoyed the Lounge Gastro Bar on Queensway Quay. We enjoyed a good Sunday roast dinner here, choice of beef or pork with Yorkshire puddings. Many Gibraltar pubs and restaurants offer a Sunday roast but this was recommended to us, and yes, it was good. They also have a Pub quiz on Sunday evenings, and yes, we participated in the quiz, but alas, we didn’t win.
Other restaurants in Queensway Quay were The Landings, The Waterfront, and Casa Pepe. All of these Gibraltar restaurants looked lovely and had excellent seafood, and fish menus, plus all had good reviews on Trip Advisor. If only we had had more time in Gibraltar to try them.
4 Stagioni
For Italian food, head to 4 Stagioni on Rosia Road, just a short walk from Main Street. We enjoyed a delicious pizza here, but the pasta dishes looked great too, and the tiramisu is highly recommended. On Saturday night, they have live entertainment, the singer when we were there was terrific.
Curry and Sushi
For curry, head to Curry and Sushi – Parliament Lane, just off Main Street. This was our favourite Gibraltar restaurant, and if we lived in here, we would definitely come here at least once a week. Portion sizes are large, so don’t over order. We didn’t try the sushi, but it looked good. The ladies that run this place are super friendly.

Our Favourite Gibraltar Pubs
Just a few steps away from Curry and Sushi on Parliament Lane is the Star Bar. Apparently, this is the oldest Gibraltar pub, a place where Christopher Columbus stopped for a fillet steak on his way to the Americas – umm not so sure about that. To be honest, we didn’t stop here for a drink, it looked a bit sterile and soulless, but the full English breakfasts are meant to be good here.
The Angry Friar
The Angry Friar is a busy Gibraltar pub on Main Street with lots of outdoor seating. Popular with families. Offered an extensive menu, and a popular place to enjoy a beer and people watch.
The Royal Calpe
The Royal Calpe another Gibraltar pub and restaurant, also located on Main Street. Offered 2 meals for the price of 1 on the dinner menu, and I do love a bargain! Fun place to sit outside on Main Street, but it also has a beer garden too.
Jury’s
Jury’s – Main Street. We had to wait until our last night before we could get a table here. It’s a favourite Gibraltar pub serving proper British pub food. Had our last meal here, I had a delicious British fish and chips (well I had too really!) with mushy peas, and Jonathan had a Beef and Guinness pie.
Lord Nelson Bar & Brasserie
Lord Nelson Bar & Brasserie – located on Casements Square. A good British pub in the corner of the square, serving good food, snacks, and drinks. Very friendly staff.
Casements Square has many cafes and fish and chip shops and is very busy during the day when the cruise ships arrive. Although today it’s a popular place to enjoy a drink, in years gone by, the square was the centre for public executions.
Outside of town but as this is Gibraltar, so not too far away.
Bistro Point
University of Gibraltar, Europa Point. Bistro Point is a new Gibraltar restaurant on the south side, it opened in October 2017 and is only open for breakfasts and lunch and serves not only great eggs Benedict, but also has excellent views of the mountains of Morocco and the Strait of Gibraltar.
Michaelangelo’s
Michaelangelo’s – Catalan Bay. We only stopped here for a quick drink on our drive around Gibraltar. However, this place gets consistently good reviews on TripAdvisor for its food. Next time, we are in the area, we will try this place.
